Fresh off the Marriott press release:
“Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAR) announced today that the iconic Atlantis, Paradise Island resort will become part of its Autograph Collection, a rapidly growing exclusive portfolio of over 60 independent hotels in key locations across the globe. Regarded as the premier destination resort in The Bahamas and Caribbean, the 3,400 room Atlantis, Paradise Island will operate under a franchise agreement with Marriott and benefit from the company’s global sales and reservations organization, 45-million member Marriott Rewards loyalty program and Marriott.com which generates more than $9.6 billion in gross room bookings annually.”
As a Marriott Rewards member, I am delighted with this announcement as there is currently a lack of exciting resort properties in their portfolio. Due to the shortage of exciting resort properties at the Marriott, I’ve had to use my Marriott Rewards points to redeem free nights in properties in the city center. For example, a few weeks ago I stayed at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong, which you can read about here. Now don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed my free nights stay at the JW Marriott Hong Kong, but the JW Marriott Hong Kong isn’t really the first hotel that comes to mind when I’m thinking of a hotel in Hong Kong. To be fair to the Marriott there isn’t really any hotel that I would think of, maybe with the exception of The Peninsula. Whereas the first hotel that comes to mind when I think about the Bahamas is the Atlantis, Paradise Island.
There’s no word yet of when the Atlantis, Paradise Island will be available to book through the Marriott channels and therefore allowing you to book with Marriott Reward points. But you can be sure that I’ll be saving up my Marriott Rewards points for when this day comes.
As mentioned before the best way to use Marriott Rewards points is for free night stays in hotels. As this Atalantis Island Paradise is not cheap, then this would be a good use of your Marriott Rewards points. I presume this will be a category 9 hotel requiring 45,000 MR points.
