After a 16 hour flight I arrived in Singapore and was delighted at the sight of clear skies and a beautiful sunshine especially after the miserable weather I’ve had to endure in England for the last few months.
At the airport there was quite a queue at customs and then another significant queue at the taxi rank. The drive to the Intercontinental from the airport took around 20 mins and cost about £10. I arrived at the hotel at 3pm and was welcomed by a friendly staff who walked me to the check-in desk. At check-in they acknowledged my Ambassador status and upgraded me from a deluxe room to a business room and offered me an umbrella as a welcome gift; something I was hoping I wouldn’t need to use.

The room itself was pretty standard nothing really much to talk about except it had nice marble foyer and bathroom.

The hotel is located in Bugis precinct which is known for its museums and galleries dedicated to the Peranakan culture. Though, I wasn’t really interested in visiting these museums and galleries. I probably should have done more research of the area before I chose to stay here. However, Singapore is small, taxis are cheap and there is a train station close to the hotel so travelling around was no issue. Orchard Road and the Marina Bay area are areas more suited to those who want things on their door step. Though the one thing that I liked about staying in Bugis was that it was close to the Famous Raffles hotel, the Long Bar located in the Raffles hotel is where the Singapore Sling was developed.
Overall, the hotel didn’t really have a wow factor, their wasn’t an impressive pool or an incredible view, the breakfast buffet had a good spread but nothing really to get to excited about; in addition the location wasn’t where all the action was. But the hotel did deliver when it came to all the basics you expect from a hotel, friendly stuff, cleanliness and had all the things you expect from a 5 star hotel.
For future stays I’ll be planning to stay in a more desirable location such as Orchard Road and the Marina bay area.
