I previously wrote about some of the perks of being British Airways Gold Executive Club member. Here is a clip from BA showing the benefits of reaching gold.
However, there is always a higher status, and when it comes to the BAEC the next level is the Gold Guest list. This requires you to earn 5000 tier points in a year which is more than 3 times the amounts of tier points required to become a gold member.
Reaching GGL is not an easy task, you will need to fly, fly, and fly some more.
I recently came across a blog about Will who is doing a ‘tier points run’ to become a Gold Guest List member. He has an epic journey ahead of him with the first part of his journey being as follow.
1. LHR-BRU (London to Brussels)
2. BRU-HEL (Brussels to Helsinki)
3. HEL-LHR (Helsinki to Heathrow)
4. LCY-JFK (London City to New York)
5. JFK-LAX (New York to LA)
6. LAX-HNL (LA to Honolulu)
7. HNL-LAX (Honolulu to LA)
8. LAX-MCO (LA to Orlando)
9. MCO-MIA (Orlando to Miami)
10. MIA-STT (Miami to St Thomas US Virgin Islands)
11. STT-MIA (St Thomas US Virgin Islands to Miami)
12. MIA-LAX (Miami to LA)
13. LAX-HNL (LA to Honolulu)
14. HNL-LAX (Honolulu to Los Angeles)
15. LAX-JFK (Los Angeles to New York)
16. JFK-LCY (New York to London City)
17. LHR-HEL (Heathrow to Helsinki)
18. HEL-BRU (Helsinki to Brussels)
19. BRU-LHR (Brussels to Heathrow)
A real road warrior, Will is not only going to see a lot of the world but also reach a status that will guarantee him with many perks. One of the best benefits of hitting GGLis avios availability when there are no redemption seats available. This is a big benefit if you are the type of person who doesn’t plan trips well in advance – I’m very guilty of this. As a result, I never find any flights which I can redeem my avios with; I therefore end up paying with cash. Yuck!
Follow will on his Epic Journey to GGL from his blog. I’ve never done a mile run, let alone a tier points run. But Will’s journey does sure sound fun – and all done in the luxury of either business and first class. What a baller!
